The Nigerian Army has announced a significant breakthrough in its operations against terrorism in Kogi State. The 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army has successfully neutralised a terrorist and arrested logistics couriers suspected of supplying the terrorist group.
The breakthrough came after troops of the 12 Brigade intensified checkpoints and clearance operations across parts of Lokoja Local Government Area. Acting on credible intelligence, the troops intercepted and apprehended a suspected terrorist logistics courier conveying supplies on a motorcycle.
The suspect was found to be carrying a modified fuel tank designed for concealing ammunition, as well as three mobile phones and a purchase receipt. Further investigation led to the discovery of a logistics exchange point, where troops made contact with fleeing terrorists and neutralised one while others escaped with gunshot wounds.
Items recovered from the scene include a motorcycle, pump-action belt with cartridges, charms, drinks, mobile phone, side bag, and a cash sum of ₦20,000. In a separate operation, troops apprehended another suspected terrorist at Bakumba community in Lokoja Local Government Area, who was alleged to have been involved in the kidnapping and murder of a resident.
The Nigerian Army has assured residents of continued proactive operations to protect lives and property across the region. In other parts of the North Central, troops intensified operations, leading to the recovery of rustled livestock and swift response to attacks on civilian communities.
The Nigerian Army's successes in Kogi State are a testament to the effectiveness of targeted operations against terrorism. The neutralisation of a terrorist and the arrest of logistics couriers demonstrate the military's ability to disrupt terrorist supply chains. However, the presence of a logistics exchange point suggests a larger network at play, which must be dismantled to prevent future attacks. The arrest of a suspect involved in kidnapping and murder highlights the need for the military to work closely with local authorities to bring perpetrators to justice. The Nigerian people deserve to live without fear of terrorism, and the military must continue to take proactive steps to protect their lives and property.
