Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sandamu Local Government Area of Katsina State have endorsed Yusuf Buhari, son of former President Muhammad Buhari, as their preferred candidate for the Daura/Sandamu/Mai'adua Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives. The decision was announced after a high-level meeting at the Sandamu Local Government secretariat, attended by elected officials and political appointees across the constituency. Council Chairman Usman Na Lado described the endorsement as a collective decision aimed at boosting the party's electoral strength. He cited Yusuf Buhari's perceived competence and broad acceptance among party members as key factors in the selection.
The meeting also reaffirmed support for President Bola Tinubu and Katsina State Governor Dikko Umar Radda as the APC's presidential and gubernatorial candidates for the 2027 general elections. Stakeholders further backed Nasiru Yahaya Daura, Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, for the Daura Senatorial seat. Na Lado called on party members to increase grassroots mobilisation. According to sources within the APC, the endorsement of Yusuf Buhari follows a directive from Governor Radda, who has reportedly anointed him as the preferred candidate.
An endorsement shaped by the governor's influence says more about internal party control than public choice. Yusuf Buhari's candidacy, backed by top-down directive rather than primary contest, signals that access to power in Katsina's APC hinges on alignment with the governor's office. For voters in Daura/Sandamu/Mai'adua, this means the real decision was made before they were consulted. Party loyalty appears tied less to electoral mandate and more to proximity to Governor Radda.
