The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has redeployed 162 senior officers in a sweeping reshuffle of its command structure. Corps Marshal Malam Shehu Mohammed approved the move to strengthen operations and improve road safety nationwide. The changes include the appointment of four new Zonal Commanding Officers: ACM C.Z. Mathew, ACM A.L.O. Ruk, ACM B.S. Akande, and ACM Leye Adegboyega, assigned to Benin, Enugu, Sokoto, and Bauchi zones respectively. Several Corps Commanders have also been reassigned as Sector Commanders to states including Kaduna, Ogun, Benue, Delta, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, and the Federal Capital Territory.
DCC Osondu Ohaeri has been promoted to Assistant Corps Commander and appointed the new Corps Public Education Officer, taking over public communications for the agency. The affected states span across all geopolitical zones, with officers moved based on competence, track record, and operational needs. According to ACC Agboola Olundegun, who announced the changes in Abuja, the FRSC remains focused on deploying personnel where they can deliver maximum impact. Mohammed urged all appointees to show professionalism, strategic leadership, and strict adherence to the Corps' zero tolerance policy on traffic violations and preventable crashes.
A reshuffle of this scale suggests the FRSC leadership sees current road safety outcomes as falling short, despite years of public campaigns. Appointing Osondu Ohaeri to lead communications signals a push for sharper public messaging, but Nigerians will judge based on reduced gridlock and fewer fatal crashes, not internal rotations. Structural changes mean little if patrol density and enforcement consistency don't improve on major highways.
