900,000 get empowerment in digital skills
**900,000 Nigerian Youth Acquire Digital Skills for Better Job Prospects** In a major breakthrough, over 900,000 young Nigerians have been empowered with the skills they need to compete in today's fast-paced job market. This remarkable achievement is courtesy of the Future-X Unilever Campus Ambassadors Programme (FUCAP), a partnership between Unilever and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). Launched about two and a half years ago, FUCAP is designed to equip young Nigerians with the employability, digital, and entrepreneurial skills required to succeed in the modern labour market. The programme operates through UNICEF's Youth Agency Marketplace digital platform, leveraging social media engagement and campus networks in our tertiary institutions. As part of the global public-private partnership, Generation Unlimited, FUCAP aims to connect young Nigerians with education, skills, and employment opportunities. This initiative is chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima, further emphasizing its significance. Speaking on the programme, Tobi Adeniyi, Managing Director of Unilever Nigeria Plc, noted that FUCAP combines digital learning with on-campus engagement to expand access to career development opportunities for students. "Over 85,000 students have benefited from our 30 physical career seminars organized in collaboration with partner institutions," he said. The initiative focuses on providing young people with practical skills and career guidance to enhance their job prospects. Chief of UNICEF Lagos Office and Lead for Generation Unlimited Nigeria, Celine Lafoucriere, emphasized that FUCAP seeks to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements. Through the programme, 20 universities have been reached, providing students with training, digital skills, and guidance to facilitate their transition into jobs. This is a significant step towards empowering Nigerian youth and ensuring they are equipped to tackle the challenges of the 21st century.
