The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lacks the financial capacity to sponsor a presidential candidate in the 2027 general election, according to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike. He made the remark during a monthly media briefing in Abuja on Friday, brushing aside reports of internal divisions within the party. Wike insisted that the PDP is united despite public disagreements among key members. He attributed the party's weakened state to years of electoral defeats and dwindling funding.
Wike claimed that no individual within the PDP currently has the financial muscle to run a viable presidential campaign. He noted that past campaigns were largely funded by individual aspirants, not the party itself. "The PDP does not have money to conduct a presidential election," Wike said. He added that the party's structure is not equipped to raise or manage the level of funds required for a national campaign. The minister emphasized that any contender in 2027 would need personal financial strength to compete.
