Former Senator Dino Melaye has claimed that the All Progressives Congress is in a state of panic over growing defections to the African Democratic Congress. Speaking on Channels Television's Morning Briefs on Thursday, Melaye, who now belongs to the ADC, said the APC fears the party as the only viable opposition capable of mounting a serious challenge in the 2027 general elections. He pointed to recent political shifts, with members from various parties reportedly moving to the ADC. According to Melaye, the ruling party's anxiety is misplaced given its current dominance with 32 governors in power. "Me personally I'm shocked as to why they are panicking, they have 32 governors and have taken over, so why are you afraid?" he said. Melaye accused President Bola Tinubu of seeking a coronation rather than facing a competitive election. "In a nutshell, it's not about ADC, it's about democracy. President Bola Tinubu wants to be coronated; he doesn't want an election. He wants us to practise a monarchical system of government," Melaye added.
Dino Melaye's claim that Tinubu prefers coronation over election cuts to the core of growing political theatrics within the APC. With no concrete evidence presented to support the level of panic he describes, the statement plays more as ADC positioning than political revelation. For Nigerian voters, the real issue is not internal APC anxiety but the credibility of opposition parties to offer genuine alternatives. Melaye's rhetoric may energize ADC supporters, but without broad coalition-building, such declarations remain noise.
