You cannot keep Yellowstone’s Dutton family down, and we’re grateful for that. Here’s what you need to know about Marshals season 2 on CBS and Paramount+, because we are already having that conversation! The Yellowstone spin-off picks up where the anchor series left off, geographically, in Montana. However, as a procedural about U.S. Marshals protecting the area from outside threats, it’s a very different show. Also, as we learned, some time has passed. But Yellowstone fans quickly got on board with the procedural, and the network responded in kind. Did Marshals get renewed for season 2? You betcha it did. The new series was renewed by CBS on March 12, 2026 according to Deadline. This announcement came after only two episodes, which the trade publication notes is quite early for that kind of decision from on high. It therefore means that the show must be doing well. Yippee! What will Marshals season 2 be about? Well, the thing about an early renewal is that we really don’t know what the second season is going to be about. We barely know what the first season is going to be about. It will definitely be interesting to see which former Yellowstone characters make the cross over in future potential seasons. So far, in season 1, only a choice few cast members are involved with this new procedural series: Luke Grimes, Brecken Merrill, Mo Brings Plenty, and Gil Birmingham. Another spinoff, called The Dutton Ranch, is en route starring Yellowstone’s Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser and “introducing” Annette Bening and Ed Harris to this sprawling television universe. Crossover, anybody? Would that just be Yellowstone season 6? Eh! When will Marshals season 2 premiere? Since CBS greenlit a second season so quickly, that means that the writers and producers can get to working on it ASAP. Fans might not have to wait that long at all. Plus, new seasons of Yellowstone came out fairly consistently. From 2018 to 2024, the only year that didn’t feature the premiere of a new season was 2023. Filming and barely impacted/impeded by the COVID-19 pandemic and WGA/SAG strikes. They run this show like, well, the U.S. Marshals. I think we can confidently say that Marshals season 2 will premiere in early 2027, if not earlier. The first season is so short–only five episodes long! I could definitely see a scenario where we get the first of 5-8 new episodes later this year.
