A powerful windstorm on Tuesday afternoon ripped the roof off the newly completed Kugbo bus terminal in Nasarawa State, causing major disruptions on the Abuja-Keffi highway. The storm hit around 3:30 pm, lasting under an hour, but generated strong enough winds to tear off the entire roof structure of the terminal, which had not yet been commissioned for use. Debris from the roof spilled onto the adjacent highway, blocking lanes and triggering gridlock that lasted several hours. Motorists reported stalled traffic stretching over five kilometres as emergency responders worked to clear the roadway. The Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), responsible for the terminal's construction, has not issued a statement on the damage or timeline for repairs. The terminal, built at a reported cost of ₦1.2 billion, was intended to ease congestion at the old Karu transit point.

💡 NaijaBuzz Take

The collapse of the Kugbo terminal's roof before it even opened raises serious questions about construction quality and oversight. FCDA spent ₦1.2 billion on a facility that could not withstand a single storm. For commuters who rely on the Abuja-Keffi corridor, this failure means continued exposure to unreliable infrastructure. It also signals that big-ticket projects may be prioritised over durability and functionality.
