Residents of Abaji Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory have been without electricity for twelve months after vandals damaged the power line that connects the Gwagwalada and Kwali substations, a local resident reported. The disruption has left households, schools and health facilities in the area operating in darkness.
Comrade Ismaila Mohammed, who described himself as a stakeholder in the community, confirmed the situation in an interview and said the problem has been getting worse. He noted that the lack of power has forced residents to rely on costly generators and candles, affecting daily activities and safety.
Efforts to repair the vandalised infrastructure have not yet restored supply, and the community continues to endure the prolonged outage.
Comrade Ismaila Mohammed's warning that the power outage is worsening signals a deepening hardship for Abaji residents. Without reliable electricity, essential services and local businesses face mounting costs, which could exacerbate poverty and limit economic opportunities in the council.
