The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared it will contest the 2027 general election on its own platform despite the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) removing its leadership from official records. Speaking on Channels Television's Politics Today on Tuesday, ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi insisted the party would not be deterred, stating, "One thing I can guarantee is that we will contest the 2027 election on the ADC platform." He cited confidence in the judiciary, saying, "We believe we have a slam-dunk case. If we are granted the accelerated hearing today and the court sits, we are confident that justice will be done."

Abdullahi dismissed INEC's move as contradictory, noting the commission had previously acknowledged the party's leadership change in an affidavit. He warned that surrendering would make the ADC complicit in undermining Nigeria's multiparty democracy. The party also accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of attempting to turn Nigeria into a one-party state, alleging President Bola Tinubu's administration seeks to eliminate viable opposition by destabilizing parties like the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party, and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

The ADC ruled out boycotting the election, with Abdullahi calling it "surrender." He argued the party carries the hopes of Nigerians who have faced hardship under the current administration and would not abandon the electoral process.

Abdullahi's claim that the APC is engineering a one-party state by dismantling opposition parties carries weight only if the alleged destabilization tactics are proven. If true, it means Nigerians face a future where electoral choices shrink to a single dominant party, leaving voters with no meaningful alternatives.
