VIDEO: You Cannot Say I Should Be Responsible For Naming Financiers Of Terror — Buratai
**Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai (retd.) Defends Non-Release of Terror Financiers' Names**
On Friday, former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai (retd.), appeared as a guest on *Channels Television's Politics Today*, where he emphasized that he should not be held responsible for the non-release of the names of those financing terrorism in Nigeria. According to Buratai, the government is aware of the source of the financiers.
Buratai stated, "You cannot say I should be responsible for naming the financiers of terror." He clarified that the decision to withhold the names is not solely the army's responsibility, and instead, it is a collective decision made by the government. He noted that the agencies involved in the matter are aware of the reasons for not releasing the names.
Buratai also addressed the issue of rehabilitating repentant Boko Haram members, emphasizing that it was the government's decision and not the army's. He recalled that the initial plan was to provide a timeline for the militants to surrender in 2016, after which they would be given a free passage and handed over to relevant agencies for rehabilitation. Buratai added, "The initial concept that we had was that we gave them a timeline to surrender in 2016, and if they surrendered, we gave them a free passage and handed them over to appropriate agencies to rehabilitate them."
During the show, Buratai touched on the security challenges facing the country, expressing his concern about the need for improved intelligence to address the issue. He also called on the government to recruit more security agents to enhance the country's safety.
