PDP Leadership Tussle: Wike Dismisses Turaki's Appeal Bid

The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has described the decision by the Tanimu Turaki-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to appeal the Court of Appeal judgment on the party's leadership as baseless. This move by the Turaki-led National Executive Committee (NEC) comes as the party prepares for its national convention scheduled for 29 and 30 March at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium. Despite the appeal, the convention is set to proceed as planned, with efforts to resolve internal disputes expected to follow afterwards.

According to Wike, the appeal is unlikely to have any significant impact on the party's plans. He noted that internal disputes are a natural occurrence in any large organization, and the PDP is no exception. Wike emphasized that the party has made efforts to accommodate the concerns of its members and that the convention will showcase the party's strength in the 2027 general elections.

The Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Wike, inspected the venue of the convention on Friday night, where he confirmed that the arrangements are almost complete, with seating arrangements for all states and the VIP section ready. The convention planning committee, led by Okezie Ikpeazu, is working to ensure a smooth event.

The PDP's decision to press on with its national convention despite internal disputes is a testament to the party's resilience. However, the underlying issues must be addressed to prevent future conflicts. The party's planned convention, which promises to showcase its strength, is a significant development in Nigeria's political landscape. As the 2027 general elections approach, the PDP's ability to present a unified front will be crucial in its bid to regain power.
