Turaki-led PDP Suffers Setback as Appeal Court Declares 2025 Convention Unlawful
**Naija News: Turaki-led PDP Suffers Setback as Appeal Court Declares 2025 Convention Unlawful**
In a major development, the Court of Appeal in Abuja has declared the November 15-16, 2025 national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as unlawful. This convention produced the Taminu Turaki-led national executive of the party.
According to a three-member panel of judges, the convention was conducted in blatant disregard for a court order. The Federal High Court in Abuja had on November 14, 2025, issued an injunction restraining the party from holding the convention until certain conditions were met, including the sale of the chairmanship nomination form to a specific aspirant, Sule Lamido, a former governor of Jigawa State.
However, the PDP went ahead with the convention, sparking a dispute that has now been taken to the Appeal Court. The court ruled that the party's actions were unlawful, stating that the denial of Lamido the opportunity to purchase the nomination form was not an internal affair of the party.
The court's decision is a setback for the Turaki-led PDP, and it remains to be seen what the next steps will be. The party has indicated that it will head to the Supreme Court to appeal the decision.
In a related development, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has called for an end to the feud and urged the party to rebuild. Also, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, a key figure in the party, has stated that there is no victor and no vanquished in the dispute.
The PDP's internal crisis has been playing out in the public domain for some time now, and this latest development is likely to further exacerbate the situation. As the party navigates this challenging terrain, one thing is clear: the battle for control of the PDP is far from over.
