Troops Bust Terrorists’ Tax Collection Scheme in Yobe
**Troops Foil Terrorists' Tax Collection Scheme in Yobe, Over 120,000 Insurgents Surrender**
In a significant breakthrough, troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai, have uncovered a secret tax collection scheme operated by terrorists in Yobe State. The military high command has announced that the operation was carried out in collaboration with local hunters, Civilian Joint Task Force, and other hybrid forces supporting the ongoing counter-insurgency efforts.
According to the Armed Forces, three suspected logistics suppliers were arrested in Kanama, while a terrorist tax collector was apprehended in Kafiya village, both in Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State. The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, revealed that the successes recorded were a result of sustained military pressure, which has significantly restricted the movement of terrorists and disrupted their logistical networks.
In related news, a cumulative total of 122,843 insurgents have surrendered to troops under Operation Hadin Kai since the establishment of Operation Safe Corridor in 2015. This development is a welcome relief for Nigerians, particularly in the North East region, where the Boko Haram insurgency has been a major concern.
The military operation has also led to the rescue of abducted civilians and the interception of illicit fuel supplies intended to sustain insurgent activities. Onoja disclosed that between 7 and 11 March 2026, troops maintained intense operational pressure on terrorists across the theatre, successfully repelling several attacks despite operational challenges.
The successes recorded by the military are a testament to the effectiveness of the collaborative approach with local communities and other stakeholders. As the Nigerian military continues to push back against terrorism, it is essential to acknowledge the efforts of those who have surrendered and are working towards a peaceful resolution. With the military's sustained efforts and the support of local communities, the country is one step closer to defeating the Boko Haram insurgency and restoring peace to the affected regions.
