Bauchi APC Congress Results Face Threats as Tinubu Support Groups Urge National Leadership to Uphold Outcome
Tensions are rising in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State as President Bola Tinubu's support groups and loyalists have expressed concerns over attempts to alter the outcome of the state congress. The groups, who held a press conference at the Double Four Event Centre in Bauchi, have urged the party's national leadership to uphold the results, citing the presence of observers from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and the media during the congress. The congress, which took place on March 3-4, 2026, produced Alh. Muhammad Hassan Tilde as Chairman, Alh. Mustapha Zirami as Secretary, and Hon. Yakubu Muhammed as Organizing Secretary.
The coalition, led by Barrister Jibrin S. Jibrin and Comrade Ibrahim Y. Muhammad, has accused some individuals of trying to replace elected officials with preferred candidates, a move that could jeopardize the party's unity and momentum in the state. The group warned that similar internal disputes contributed to the party's setbacks in the 2019 and 2023 elections in Bauchi, and stressed that such divisions must not be repeated ahead of the 2027 elections.
African Connection: The APC's internal struggles in Bauchi have implications for the party's performance in the 2027 elections, and could potentially affect the fortunes of President Tinubu and other party candidates in the region.
The Tinubu support groups have appealed to President Tinubu and the APC National Chairman to intervene and ensure that the Bauchi congress results are upheld, which they believe would consolidate support for the President and other party candidates.
The APC's internal power struggles in Bauchi are a stark reminder of the party's history of factionalism and divisions. It is imperative that the national leadership takes decisive action to uphold the results of the congress and prevent further infighting that could undermine the party's chances in the 2027 elections. By doing so, the APC can consolidate its support and translate its unity into stronger electoral performance in the region.
