Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has asserted his position as the National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) despite a reported takeover of the union's national secretariat by Tajudeen Baruwa. The takeover, which occurred in Abuja, has deepened the leadership crisis within the NURTW. Akinsanya described the development as a "forceful takeover" in a statement posted on his Instagram page on Monday.
Akinsanya maintained that due legal processes were still ongoing and that he was not a defendant in the judgment relied upon by Baruwa. He disclosed that the ruling had already been appealed, with a stay of execution in place. The union leader urged members to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding, stressing that he remains the National President of the NURTW.
The prolonged leadership tussle within the union has led to a series of court cases and internal disputes, with both camps laying claim to its national leadership. The takeover by Baruwa has reportedly heightened tension at the secretariat.
The ongoing leadership crisis in the NURTW is a stark reminder of the union's internal power struggles. MC Oluomo's assertion of his position as president is a clear indication that he will not back down despite the reported takeover by Tajudeen Baruwa. The union's members are caught in the middle of this power struggle, with their interests and livelihoods hanging in the balance. The prolonged leadership tussle has significant implications for the union's operations and the welfare of its members. As the situation unfolds, it is imperative that the relevant authorities take decisive action to resolve the crisis and ensure the union's stability.
