Suspected notorious cultist arrested in Ondo
**Notorious Cultist Arrested in Ondo**
In what can be described as a significant breakthrough in the fight against cultism in Ondo State, a suspected cult leader, Akinwale Tomiwa, also known as Bella, has been arrested by the Ondo State Police Command. Tomiwa, a notorious figure in the Owo community, was apprehended by operatives of the Special Anti-Cultism Squad in Akure, following credible intelligence.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the suspect is alleged to be the leader of the Eiye Confraternity operating within Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, and its environs. Tomiwa's arrest is a significant development, as he had been on the command's wanted list for his alleged involvement in cult-related activities.
Tomiwa is also linked to the murder of a student, Ojo Peter, who was killed on December 12, 2025, in Owo. The incident had raised concerns within the community, with many suspecting that it was connected to cult-related rivalry. Further investigations revealed that the suspect was recently featured on a social media platform, Naija Confra, for allegedly participating in an attack on suspected members of the Aiye Confraternity along Fasawe Street in Owo.
This attack was reportedly part of an ongoing supremacy battle between rival cult groups in the area. During the arrest, several items were recovered from the suspect, including those that could link him to his alleged crimes.
The arrest of Tomiwa is a testament to the Ondo State Police Command's commitment to tackling cultism and ensuring the safety of citizens in the state. This development is a welcome relief to the people of Owo and Ondo State, who have been plagued by cult-related activities in recent times. The police are urging anyone with information on cult activities to come forward and assist in their efforts to combat this menace.
In Nigeria, cultism has been a major concern, particularly in the South-West region, where it has claimed the lives of many young people. The Ondo State Police Command's efforts to curb cultism are commendable, and this arrest is a significant step in the right direction.
