Togo moves to increase electricity imports from Nigeria
**Nigeria to Supply More Electricity to Togo as Demand Soars**
In a significant development, the Republic of Togo has expressed interest in increasing its electricity purchases from Nigeria's Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) to meet the growing demand for power in the West African country. This move is aimed at extending a reliable electricity supply to newly connected customers nationwide and supporting economic activities.
During a strategic meeting between the management of NDPHC and a delegation from Compagnie Energie Electrique du Togo (CEET), the national electricity utility of Togo, the Director-General of CEET, Débo-K’mba Barandao, praised the consistency of Nigeria's electricity supply and the positive impact the partnership has had on improving power reliability within Togo's electricity network.
Currently, Togo purchases about 75 megawatt-hours of electricity from NDPHC on a bilateral basis. This arrangement has helped the country maintain stable electricity delivery and sustain a reliable, quality, and affordable power supply for households, businesses, and public institutions.
However, CEET is witnessing a surge in electricity demand following the onboarding of new customers, including industrial and commercial users. To meet this growing demand, the utility company is seeking to increase its electricity imports from Nigeria. This move is also in line with the Togolese government's efforts to expand electricity access across the country.
The partnership between CEET and NDPHC has been mutually beneficial, further strengthening regional energy cooperation in West Africa. This development is a testament to the growing importance of regional energy cooperation in the region, with Nigeria playing a pivotal role in providing electricity to its neighboring countries.
