Nigeria's economic powerhouse, Anambra State, is witnessing a new chapter under Governor Chukwuma Soludo. Following his inauguration for a new term alongside his deputy, Onyekachukwu Ibezim, the governor has directed all political appointees to hand over their duties to permanent secretaries or the most senior civil servants in their respective ministries, departments, and agencies.
This directive, contained in a notice dated March 18, 2026, was issued through the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Nwabufo Nwankwo. The appointees are expected to complete the handover process by the close of work on Wednesday, pending the constitution of a new cabinet.
The notice explains that all political appointees should hand over to permanent secretaries or the most senior civil servants in their respective MDAs. First-term cabinet members, on the other hand, are required to meet with the governor on Monday, March 23, 2026, at 10 am prompt, at the ANSEC Chambers.
This move is a signal that a new era is underway in Anambra State, with Governor Soludo set to drive his vision forward with a fresh team. The presence of high-profile dignitaries at the inauguration ceremony, including Vice President Kashim Shettima and former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, underscores the significance of this new chapter in the state's history.
With this directive, Governor Soludo is signaling his commitment to strengthening the civil service and ensuring a smooth transition of power. As the new cabinet takes shape, one thing is clear: Anambra State is poised for significant growth and development under Governor Soludo's leadership.
