Sanwo-Olu: Light-up Lagos project improving safety, security on roads Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said the ongoing Light-Up Lagos project is yielding positive results, with the installation of new streetlights and replacement of faulty fittings across major roads and highways in the state. Sanwo-Olu said the initiative, being implemented across both the Mainland and the Island, is part of the government’s effort to improve security, enhance night-time visibility, and make movement safer for residents. The governor noted that the project had recorded steady progress in recent weeks, as more streets and highways were being illuminated to support economic and social activities across the state. According to him, effective street lighting plays a critical role in public safety, especially for residents who travel late at night or leave home early in the morning for work and other engagements. “We have been making steady progress with the Light-Up Lagos project. Across major roads and highways in the state, our teams have been installing streetlights and replacing old, unreliable fittings. “You may have seen the work happening recently, both on the Mainland and the Island. Good lighting helps people move around more safely and improves security along our roads, whether you are heading home late from work or starting your day before dawn,” he said. Sanwo-Olu added that the project would continue to be expanded to cover more communities, assuring residents of his administration’s commitment to sustaining infrastructure that supports safety, economic growth, and quality of life. “This work is ongoing, and we will continue expanding it across the state, one street at a time,” the governor said.
