2027: PDP deserted as Bala Mohammed, Seyi Makinde set to dump party
**Breaking News: More Troubles for PDP as Governors Bala Mohammed and Seyi Makinde Plan to Leave**
As the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) continues to grapple with internal crises, two more governors are set to dump the party before April. Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State and his Oyo State counterpart, Seyi Makinde, have reportedly made up their minds to leave the PDP, according to sources close to the party.
While Governor Bala Mohammed is said to be heading to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Governor Seyi Makinde is allegedly planning to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC). This development comes on the heels of a series of defections from the PDP to APC since the 2023 general elections.
In the past year, no fewer than 9 PDP governors have left the party, citing irreconcilable crises within the opposition platform. Governors such as Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom, and Peter Mbah of Enugu State have all defected to APC. More recently, Governors Douye Diri of Bayelsa State, Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State, Agbu Kefas of Taraba State, and Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State have also joined the ruling party.
Meanwhile, Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has expressed interest in leaving the PDP for APC and will be officially received into the party after the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The exodus of high-profile politicians from the PDP to APC is a significant blow to the opposition party, which has been struggling to regain its footing in the Nigerian political landscape. As the party continues to lose key leaders, it remains to be seen how it will adapt to this new reality and regain its momentum.
