Sallah: Police warn against false alarms, misinformation in Yobe
**Sallah in Yobe: Avoid False Alarms and Misinformation, Police Warn**
As Muslims in Yobe State, and indeed across Nigeria, prepare to celebrate Sallah, the Yobe State Police Command has issued a warning against the spread of false alarms and unverified information. This comes on the heels of recent incidents at prayer gatherings where false alarms led to panic among worshippers.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Dungus Abdulkarim, expressed concern over the devastating consequences of false alarms in crowded places. He noted that such actions not only undermine public confidence but can also lead to tragic outcomes, including injuries or loss of life due to stampedes. This is a timely reminder, especially in a country where crowd control can be a challenge, as seen during last year's Eid celebrations in Kaduna.
The Command urged residents to avoid raising false alarms and advised that any suspicious activity should be reported discreetly to security personnel. Abdulkarim also cautioned against spreading unverified information on social media, which can generate unnecessary fear and confusion. In today's digital age, misinformation can spread like wildfire on social media platforms, making it essential for citizens to verify information through appropriate authorities before sharing.
To ensure a peaceful Sallah celebration, the Command called on organisers of prayer gatherings to coordinate closely with security agencies to ensure smooth and safe events. Adequate security personnel will be deployed across all designated locations to guarantee safety.
In a final warning, Abdulkarim reiterated that the Command would not tolerate rumours or content that could disrupt public order. As Nigerians prepare to celebrate Sallah, it is essential for us to be mindful of the power of information and to verify before sharing. Let us make this Eid a peaceful and joyful celebration for all.
