The former governor of Anambra state and Labour Party (LP) Presidential candidate in 2023 general election, Mr Peter Obi, Saturday in Awka, took part in the registration and mobilisation for members of African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Speaking he said, “The election in 2027 will be between Nigeria and against leadership. This is the worst time Nigeria is going through several challenges. We must stand up against injustice. We want a new Nigeria where a child of nobody will become someone without knowing anybody. We want a new Nigeria where we will invest in Nigeria.
“There will be medical centres, schools and other amenities accessible at the grassroots. We want unity to pull Nigerians out of poverty. Let’s go in as one family. Let’s not stay where they dropped us. This will reduce criminality and insecurity. Go and become fishers of men. We want you to go out, register and mobilise others to join in building a new Nigeria,” he added.
On the new electoral Act recently signed by President Bola Tinubu, Obi said “The INEC has no reason to dictate processes the political parties will elect or present their candidates. They should be concerned with how to conduct an election. It is wrong for them to usurp the power of political parties.
“Everything is not about how to snatch and run with elections again. What they stole and ran away with is what we are suffering for now. We can’t continue like this. We are ready to stop them from snatching and running with the election. If they try to snatch it in 2027, we will grab them. Our votes must count.”
Other speakers, including Senator Tony Nwoye, members representing Anambra North and Senator Victor Umeh of Anambra Central reassured their commitment towards ensuring that the party clinched victorious in the state in the 2027 poll.
Earlier speaking, the Deputy Chairman South, ADC, Senator Ben Ndi-Obi urged all members of the party to be committed to the assignment of registering and mobilising new members rather than dragging leadership so that at the end they would succeed in delivering Peter Obi as the next President of the country.
