PDP factions to know fate on Monday as Court of Appeal set to deliver judgement
**PDP Leadership Crisis: Fate of Party Factions to be Decided on Monday**
In a few hours, the uncertainty surrounding the leadership of Nigeria's main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), may come to an end. The Court of Appeal in Abuja is set to deliver a judgment on Monday, March 9, 2026, that could determine the fate of two rival factions vying for control of the party.
The crisis started after the PDP held a national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, in November 2025. A faction led by Tanimu Turaki emerged as the National Working Committee, while another faction backed by Governor Nyesom Wike established a National Caretaker Committee. Both factions have been at loggerheads over the party's leadership, with each claiming legitimacy.
According to sources close to the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee, the Court of Appeal has informed them that a judgment on the nine consolidated appeals filed by both factions will be delivered on Monday. This development has sent shockwaves within the party, with many members anxiously awaiting the outcome.
In a statement, the PDP Governors' Forum, led by Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State, called on party members nationwide to remain calm, law-abiding, and respect the rule of law. The forum emphasized that the party has confidence in the ability of the appellate court to dispense justice and maintain peace.
The statement read, in part: "At this defining moment for our democracy, we reaffirm our respect for the judicial process and our commitment to peace. Regardless of the outcome, the PDP will continue to be a cornerstone of our democracy, with a deep respect for fairness, impartiality, and national stability."
As Nigerians await the judgment, many are hoping that it will bring an end to the leadership crisis that has plagued the PDP for months. The outcome will undoubtedly have significant implications for the party's fortunes in the 2027 general elections.
