Osun State Police Command has outlined a series of activities to mark the 2026 National Police Day. The event, themed "Community Partnership: Building Trust," aims to give back to society and strengthen collaboration between the police and the people of Osun State. The activities will take place at various locations across the state, including the State Command, Area Commands, and Divisional Headquarters.
According to DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the command's PRO, the event will commence on Monday, 30th March 2026, with sanitation and cleaning within the metro, focusing on the theme of the celebration. On the same day, the Command's Directorate of Medical Services will conduct a free medical outreach for members of the public, including families of deceased and serving police personnel.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, will lead officers and men of the command on a walkathon within Osun metropolis on Tuesday, 31st March 2026. The following day, the Command will embark on public sensitization campaigns on electoral violence, ballot snatching, and other related offences.
The Osun State Police Command's efforts to build trust with the community through community partnership initiatives are commendable. However, the question remains whether these efforts will translate into tangible improvements in policing and community relations. The fact that the Commissioner of Police has reaffirmed the Command's commitment to protecting lives and property and upholding the rights and dignity of all citizens is a welcome development. The public sensitization campaigns on electoral violence and safe driving practices are also crucial in promoting a safer and more secure environment for all.
