The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has taken a significant step towards boosting its leadership capacity and performance by promoting 120 senior officers to higher ranks. The move, which took effect from January 1, 2026, aims to create a more motivated, disciplined, and result-driven workforce dedicated to saving lives on Nigeria's roads.
According to a statement by the acting Corps Public Education Officer, Felicia Kalu, the promotions were approved by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. The breakdown of the exercise shows that 19 officers were elevated to the rank of Assistant Corps Marshal, while 55 Deputy Corps Commanders were promoted to Corps Commander. Additionally, 46 Assistant Corps Commanders advanced to Deputy Corps Commander.
The FRSC spokesperson noted that the promotions were in recognition of the officers' exemplary service records, leadership competence, and sustained contributions to the advancement of the Corps. The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, congratulated the newly promoted officers, describing the exercise as a reflection of the Corps' commitment to excellence, discipline, and structured career progression.
The promoted officers are expected to demonstrate higher levels of dedication, leadership, and professionalism in their duties. They are also urged to deploy their wealth of experience towards advancing the FRSC's mandate of reducing road traffic crashes and ensuring safer motoring environments across the country.
The recent promotion of 120 senior officers by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) is a welcome development that should boost the agency's capacity to tackle the scourge of road accidents in Nigeria. The move, however, raises questions about the criteria for promotion and whether it is based on merit or other factors. The FRSC should provide clarity on this matter to avoid any perception of favoritism. The promoted officers have a responsibility to justify the confidence reposed in them by delivering on their duties and contributing to the reduction of road traffic crashes in Nigeria. With this development, Nigerians can expect to see a more effective and efficient FRSC in the days ahead.
