Professor Oserhimen Osunbor, the National Legal Adviser of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has dismissed the claim by Governor Monday Okpebholo that he will deliver 3.5 million votes to President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
According to Osunbor, such a claim is unrealistic and misleading, as it is not grounded in electoral realities. He pointed out that the total number of registered voters in Edo State is a crucial factor in determining the outcome of an election.
In a meeting with the Edo Central senatorial ADC in Ewohimi, Esan South East Local Government Area, Osunbor argued that the APC's boast of controlling 31 governors is politically inconsequential to the outcome of the 2027 presidential elections. He contended that many of the governors defecting or aligning with the APC might be acting under false assurances.
The ADC has recently received defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a development that Osunbor attributed to Nigerians gravitating towards an alternative platform ahead of the next general election.
The APC's boasts of numerical strength through its governors are nothing but a desperate attempt to cling to power. Professor Osunbor's warning that some of these governors may not even make the final list of candidates submitted to INEC is a stark reminder of the consequences of their actions. The ADC's growing support base, bolstered by fresh defections from the PDP, is a clear indication that Nigerians are tired of the APC's self-serving politics. Governor Okpebholo's promise of delivering 3.5 million votes to President Tinubu is a classic example of the APC's lack of electoral credibility. As the 2027 presidential election draws near, it is clear that Nigerians will not be swayed by empty promises and will instead demand a government that truly represents their interests.
