Okpebholo Ridiculing Governance
**Okpebholo's Unfortunate Display of Governance**
Since Monday Okpebholo took over as the Governor of Edo State in 2024, he has inadvertently become a laughing stock in the eyes of many Nigerians. The recent protest over the persistent power outages and arbitrary billing system by the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) in Benin City showcased his administration's inability to provide solutions to the people's problems.
Okpebholo, who should have been at the forefront of finding solutions to the power crisis, surprisingly joined the protesters on the Ring Road in Benin City. He expressed solidarity with the demonstrators, acknowledging that the power challenges affect every aspect of life in Edo State. However, his participation in the protest rather than providing solutions has raised eyebrows and questions.
One of the burning questions on the minds of many Edo residents is: What specific plans did Okpebholo outline in his manifesto to address the power crisis in the state? It's hard to fathom how he could be unaware of the power challenges that existed before he took office. Furthermore, the recent electricity bill signed into law by President Bola Tinubu has given states the power to generate, transmit, and distribute electricity. So, how many companies has Okpebholo successfully wooed to the state to help alleviate the power crisis?
The Ossiomo Power Plant inherited from his predecessor is another issue that needs attention. Abandoning such a vital project is a clear indication of the administration's lack of focus on solving the state's problems. As a governor, it is not his duty to protest but to provide effective governance and solutions to the people's challenges. By joining the protest, Okpebholo has inadvertently ridiculed himself and embarrassed his administration.
It's time for the governor to revisit his priorities and take concrete steps to address the power crisis in Edo State. Nigerians are watching, and only time will tell if Okpebholo will rise to the challenge and prove himself as a capable leader.
