Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to strengthening collaboration with the media to drive development and good governance in the state. This assurance was given on Thursday at the 2026 Press Week of the Correspondents' Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kogi State Council, held in Lokoja. Representing the governor, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, commended journalists for their professionalism, patriotism, and role in promoting good governance and projecting the image of the state.
Ododo's administration values constructive criticism and solution-driven journalism, and the governor acknowledged progress made in addressing insecurity in the state. However, he stressed that more work remains to be done, and he urged the media to sustain its partnership with government in tackling security and power supply challenges. The governor highlighted ongoing efforts to improve electricity supply, including the establishment of a regulatory framework and engagement with key stakeholders in the power sector.
Ododo's words of encouragement to journalists were echoed by other dignitaries at the event, including Chairman of the Correspondents' Chapel, Segun Ademola Salami of Channels Television, and NUJ Vice-President, Zone D, Adeiza Momohjimoh.
The words of Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, are a welcome reminder of the critical role the media plays in promoting good governance and development in the state. However, words alone are not enough, and the governor must now follow through on his promises to improve security and power supply. The ongoing efforts to improve electricity supply are a step in the right direction, but the state government must also address the root causes of insecurity and work with the media to promote transparency and accountability. As the general elections approach, it is crucial that journalists remain professional and fair in their coverage, and that the government continues to support the media in its efforts to promote good governance and development in the state.
