‘No benefit to Nigerians’ – Rhodes-Viviour faults Tinubu’s foreign trips
**Tinubu's Foreign Trips: Do They Really Benefit Nigerians?**
Former Labour Party governorship candidate for Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Viviour, has spoken out against President Bola Tinubu's frequent foreign travels. According to him, these trips provide minimal benefits to ordinary Nigerians who are struggling with economic hardship.
Speaking on Channels TV's Morning Brief, Rhodes-Viviour expressed his concerns about the timing of Tinubu's ongoing state visit to the United Kingdom, amidst rising fuel prices and other domestic challenges. "The President has spent a significant amount of time travelling abroad while the people are experiencing extreme hardship. This is unprecedented," he said.
Rhodes-Viviour questioned whether the visit to the UK, hosted by King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Windsor Castle, was a priority at this time, given the difficulties faced by Nigerians. He argued that while foreign visits may enhance the President's image and lend international credibility, they do little to improve the everyday lives of Nigerians.
"It's good for him, his image, and his party, but I don't see how it benefits the average Nigerian," Rhodes-Viviour said. This is a valid concern, given the current economic challenges facing Nigeria, including high inflation, fuel scarcity, and power outages.
The presidency claims that the trip aims to strengthen diplomatic ties and explore avenues for collaboration between Nigeria and the UK. However, Nigerians are yet to see tangible benefits from such visits. It remains to be seen whether this trip will yield any meaningful outcomes that will improve the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
As we navigate our country's economic challenges, it is essential to prioritize the needs of Nigerians over international appearances. The question on everyone's mind is: do these foreign trips truly benefit Nigeria, or are they just a display of international prestige?
