Family Clarifies Facts In Mohbad Paternity Test Controversy
The family of the late Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has issued a statement addressing what it described as widespread misrepresentation of facts surrounding the ongoing DNA paternity proceedings involving Master Liam Aloba.
In a The statement signed by Oladayo Ogungbe of Ogungbe & Ogungbe Attorneys, counsel to the Aloba family, and dated March 16, 2026. the family of Mr. Joseph Aloba raised concerns over misleading narratives circulating in sections of the media regarding Suit No: MKD/31/FAM/2024 before the Magistrate Court of Lagos State.
According to the statement, the case concerns the determination of the paternity of Master Liam Aloba in relation to the deceased singer. Due to the fact that Mohbad is deceased and had been embalmed, the DNA testing process requires post-mortem extraction from tissue samples.
The court, on February 24, 2026, directed that the paternity test be conducted in three laboratories to ensure transparency and credibility. It also ordered that the collection and forwarding of samples be supervised by a Social Welfare Officer in the presence of all parties and their counsel.
The family clarified that, contrary to circulating reports, the laboratories were not unilaterally selected by Mr. Aloba. Rather, they were chosen through a joint process involving both parties and the court. The laboratories include DNA Diagnostics Center in the United States, submitted by the applicant; Alpha Bio Labs in the United Kingdom, submitted by the respondent; and Advanced Histopathology Laboratory Limited in London, selected by the court.
However, prior to the commencement of testing, representatives of the applicant made inquiries into the technical capacity of the laboratories. Responses from Alpha Bio Labs and Advanced Histopathology Laboratory Limited indicated that they do not conduct post-mortem DNA testing involving embalmed bodies.
Following this, the applicant filed an affidavit before the court to present the development and ensure that any DNA testing carried out meets the required scientific standards.
The statement stressed that it is incorrect to suggest that Mr. Aloba deliberately selected laboratories lacking the competence for tissue-based DNA testing, noting that only one laboratory was proposed by the applicant, while the others were nominated by the respondent and the court.
Reaffirming its position, the family stated its commitment to due process and to ensuring that any DNA testing is transparent, scientifically credible, and in strict compliance with the court’s directives.
