Nigeria Customs Service Honours Female Personnel for Outstanding Contributions
The Nigeria Customs Service has paid tribute to its female personnel for their unwavering commitment to duty. At an event held in Abuja to celebrate International Women's Day, the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adeniyi, commended the women for their consistent diligence, efficiency, and dedication. The female personnel were initially invited for a parade but were instead honoured for their outstanding contributions to the service.
According to the Comptroller-General, the female personnel play a central role in the service's operations, serving at the frontline in ports and border stations, handling documentation for trade facilitation, and contributing to policy-making. He noted that the global customs community has recognised the importance of gender inclusivity in institutional structures, and that organisations that genuinely include and empower women tend to perform better and serve their communities more effectively.
The Comptroller-General acknowledged that the Nigeria Customs Service still has a way to go in achieving full gender parity, but he expressed commitment to creating an environment where women's talent, dedication, and ambition determine their progress. He praised the female personnel for their expertise and dedication to duty, which have earned them respect and fostered leadership opportunities.
Responding on behalf of the female personnel, Caroline Niagwan, the Deputy Comptroller of Customs in charge of Tariff and Trade, thanked the Comptroller-General for the recognition and acknowledged his visionary leadership and consistent championing of gender inclusion within the service.
The commendation by the Nigeria Customs Service is a significant step towards promoting gender inclusivity and empowering women within the organisation. It is heartening to see the Comptroller-General acknowledge the importance of women's contributions to the service's operations and express commitment to creating an environment where women can thrive. The recognition of the female personnel's expertise and dedication to duty is a testament to their value to the service, and it is hoped that this will pave the way for more women to take on leadership roles within the organisation.
