**Tragedy Strikes Nepal: 7 Indian Pilgrims Killed in Bus Accident**
In a devastating incident, at least seven Indian pilgrims lost their lives, and nine others were injured when a bus plunged into a valley in central Nepal. The accident occurred while the pilgrims were returning from the famous Manakamana Temple, a revered Hindu shrine where devotees believe their wishes are granted.
The bus, carrying passengers who had visited the temple, skidded off a mountain road while traveling downhill and fell approximately 150 meters down the mountainside. The vehicle landed in a ravine near Shahid Lakhan village, about 120 kilometers west of Kathmandu.
Local residents and police personnel swiftly responded to the incident, extracting the injured passengers from the wreckage and transporting them to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. Sadly, seven of the injured are Indian nationals, while the other two are the Nepali bus driver and his assistant.
This tragic accident highlights the risks associated with traveling in Nepal, particularly on its treacherous mountain roads. The country's rugged terrain and poorly maintained vehicles often contribute to bus accidents. As the Himalayan nation's economy grows, so does the demand for transportation services, but safety concerns remain a significant issue.
In recent years, Nepal has seen a significant increase in tourism, with many visitors drawn to its natural beauty and cultural heritage. While this growth is a boon for the economy, it also puts a strain on the country's infrastructure, including its transportation systems.
The Nepali authorities have promised to conduct autopsies on the deceased and hand over the bodies to their families. The incident serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of prioritizing road safety, particularly in regions with challenging terrain.
As Nigerians travel to Nepal for pilgrimage and other purposes, it's essential to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
