**Nigeria's Most Wanted Drug Kingpin Caught After 13 Years in Hiding**
In a major breakthrough, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have apprehended Reginald Peter Chidiebere, a notorious drug kingpin, who had been on the run for 13 long years. Chidiebere's reign of terror was marked by the smuggling of large quantities of cocaine and heroin into Nigeria. His luck finally ran out when NDLEA agents stumbled upon a consignment of heroin weighing 49.7 kilograms at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, Chidiebere was first arrested in 2013 over a cocaine shipment, but he managed to jump bail and evade justice. Fast-forward to 2024, his name resurfaced in connection with a heroin consignment from South Africa. Following a follow-up operation at his hotel in Lagos, agents recovered a substantial amount of heroin from one of his guests. This led to Chidiebere going underground, but NDLEA agents were hot on his heels.
The agency secured an interim forfeiture of his hotel and froze his bank accounts, making it impossible for him to sustain his lavish lifestyle in hiding. Eventually, Chidiebere was forced to surrender to the agency on February 13, 2026. He is currently in custody, facing charges related to his 2013 cocaine shipment and the 2024 heroin consignments.
Meanwhile, in a separate operation, NDLEA agents in Imo state dismantled a clandestine laboratory, recovering 18.4 kilograms of methamphetamine and precursor chemicals. This significant seizure highlights the prevalence of drug production and trafficking in Nigeria.
The apprehension of Reginald Peter Chidiebere is a welcome development, showcasing the relentless efforts of NDLEA agents in curbing the menace of drug trafficking in Nigeria. As the agency continues to crack down on drug lords and their networks, the country is one step closer to a safer and more secure future.
