NCAA summons Air Peace over Abuja–London flight disruption
**Air Peace Summoned by NCAA Over Disrupted Abuja-London Flight**
In a move to ensure air safety and protect passenger rights, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has invited Air Peace to a meeting over a disrupted flight from Abuja to London.
On Friday, a flight operating from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja to Heathrow Airport in London was forced to return to Abuja shortly after take-off due to a safety concern with the windshield. Passengers were left stranded and many complained of difficulties continuing their journey.
The NCAA has since activated its consumer protection process to address the complaints of passengers who were rerouted through Lagos and Gatwick airports before finally continuing their journey to Abuja.
According to NCAA spokesperson, Michael Achimugu, the agency will investigate the disruption and take necessary action against Air Peace if the airline is found to be in breach of aviation regulations. "We will not tolerate any abandonment of paying passengers," he said.
Air Peace has explained that the flight was returned to Abuja due to a safety concern with the windshield, which was later rectified. However, the incident has drawn the attention of the NCAA's Consumer Protection Department, which is responsible for ensuring airlines comply with passenger rights obligations.
The NCAA's move is a reminder to Nigerian airlines of the importance of prioritizing air safety and passenger rights. While the regulator continues to support domestic carriers like Air Peace, it will hold all operators to the highest standards. The outcome of the meeting will be keenly watched, with many Nigerians awaiting the outcome of the investigation into the disrupted flight.
