Patrice Motsepe, the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has pledged to respect the final verdict of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding Senegal's appeal over the stripping of their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title. The dispute stems from the controversial outcome of the AFCON final, in which CAF awarded Morocco a 3–0 victory after ruling that Senegal had effectively withdrawn from the match following a walkout protest.
The controversy began when Senegal initially secured a 1–0 victory over Morocco in the final played in Rabat. However, the match descended into chaos when several Senegal players, alongside head coach Pape Thiaw and his staff, walked off the pitch in protest after a late penalty was awarded to Morocco.
