**Body of Missing American Student Found in Barcelona**
The body of James "Jimmy" Gracey, a 20-year-old University of Alabama student, was found in the water off a Barcelona beach on Thursday. The discovery was made by police divers who positively identified the remains. Gracey had been missing since Tuesday, when he failed to return to his Airbnb after visiting friends at a nightclub.
Gracey, a member of the Theta Chi fraternity, was serving as chaplain for the school's chapter and had also taken on the role of philanthropy chairperson. He was on spring break in Spain, visiting friends who were studying abroad. His mother, Therese Marren Gracey, had posted on Facebook on Tuesday, expressing concern for her son's safety. "My college-aged son is visiting friends who are studying abroad," she wrote. "The police have his phone, but he never made it back to his Airbnb."
According to Cavin McLay, the president of the Theta Chi fraternity, Gracey had been with a group at the nightclub when they got separated. "That was the last time they saw him," McLay said. He added that about 10 people from the fraternity were in Barcelona, visiting friends who were studying abroad. McLay is currently in Barcelona but was not staying with the same group of friends as Gracey.
Gracey's body was found near the Shoko restaurant and nightclub, where he was last seen on Tuesday morning. Catalan police are continuing to investigate the cause of death. The Gracey family has released a statement, asking for prayers and privacy. "Our family is heartbroken as we confirm that Jimmy's body has been recovered in Barcelona," the statement read. "Jimmy was a deeply loved son, grandson, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend, and our family is struggling to come to terms with this unimaginable loss."
