Military Operations Yield Significant Successes Against Terrorists

Troops have been engaged in nationwide operations, resulting in the dismantling of terrorist logistics networks and the rescue of kidnapped victims. The Defence Headquarters has confirmed the recovery of arms and illicit materials across multiple theatres. According to Maj.-Gen. Michael Onoja, Director of Defence Media Operations, the military has sustained coordinated offensives against terrorists, insurgents, and other criminal elements.

In the North-East, troops have maintained pressure on Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters, leading to the arrest of suspected informants and logistics suppliers. Notably, troops recovered AK-47 rifles, magazines, and logistics items, while several suspects linked to terrorist activities were apprehended in Maiduguri, Damboa, and Mubi areas.

In the North-West, troops conducted offensive operations supported by air assets, neutralising terrorists and dismantling their support structures in Sokoto and Zamfara states. A kidnapped local government official was also rescued in Kano State.

The military has recorded multiple successes in counter-kidnapping and anti-terrorism operations in the North-Central. Troops responded swiftly to an attack on a worship centre in Kwara, rescuing some abducted victims. Several kidnapped victims were also rescued during clearance and fighting patrols, while weapons and ammunition were recovered from fleeing criminals.

💡 NaijaBuzz Take

The military's efforts to dismantle terrorist logistics networks and rescue kidnapped victims are a welcome development. The successes recorded by troops in various theatres underscore the effectiveness of ongoing military strategies and improved synergy among security agencies. However, the sustained threat of terrorism and kidnapping remains a concern for Nigerians. The military's commitment to sustaining ongoing offensives until all threats to national security are neutralised is reassuring, but the public must remain vigilant and provide timely information to support these efforts. The authorities must also address the root causes of these security challenges to prevent further incidents.
