Lagos Residents Get Two-Week Reprieve to File Tax Returns
Lagos residents can breathe a sigh of relief as the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service has extended the deadline for filing individual annual tax returns. The new deadline is now set for April 14, 2026, giving residents an extra two weeks to complete and submit their tax returns. According to Dr Ayodele Subair, Executive Chairman of LIRS, the extension aims to provide individuals with additional time to file accurate tax returns.
Dr Subair emphasized the importance of compliance, stating that it should be a routine personal practice. Electronic filing through the LIRS eTax platform is the only approved method for submitting annual returns, and the platform is secure, user-friendly, and accessible 24/7. To ensure a smooth filing process, individuals are advised to have their TaxID and total income figures for 2025 handy, as well as their H1/Form A details from their HR department if they are employees.
The LIRS eTax portal is ready and waiting for residents to file their returns at https://etax.lirs.net. With the new deadline, residents are encouraged to take advantage of the extended timeframe to complete their tax obligations.
When Dr Ayodele Subair says compliance should be embedded as a routine personal practice, that means tax evasion is no longer an option for Lagos residents. The extension of the deadline is a clear indication that the LIRS is committed to making tax compliance easier and more accessible, but it also underscores the importance of individuals taking responsibility for their tax obligations.
