The Lagos State Government will open the Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge to the public this week, marking the completion of a key infrastructure project. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is expected to inaugurate the bridge, which connects Ojota in Kosofe Local Government Area to Opebi in Alimosho Local Government Area. The bridge spans 4.5 kilometers and is part of the state's efforts to ease traffic congestion in the city.
The project, awarded to Julius Berger Nigeria PLC, was completed ahead of schedule and cost N55 billion. Sanwo-Olu had earlier announced the bridge's completion during a recent media briefing, stating that it would significantly reduce travel time between the two areas. The bridge features a dual carriageway with two lanes in each direction and pedestrian walkways.
Residents and commuters are expected to begin using the bridge immediately after the official opening.
The governor's push for the bridge's early completion suggests Lagos is prioritizing tangible solutions over prolonged delays. For commuters stuck in Ojota-Opebi's notorious traffic, the bridge's arrival means a faster route, but whether this reduces gridlock citywide depends on how well the new infrastructure integrates with existing roads.
