Lafarge Africa has announced the graduation of 100 women from its BuildHer by Lafarge 2025 Female Tilers and Block Laying Training initiative across Nigeria. The training programme is part of the company's corporate social responsibility efforts to equip women from underserved communities with technical and entrepreneurial skills. This initiative aims to increase female participation in the construction sector by providing women with the necessary skills and resources.
The Head of Sustainability and Sponsorships at Lafarge Africa, Gabriel Pollyn, commended the women for their dedication and ability to balance personal responsibilities with the demands of the training. He noted that their commitment played a significant role in the programme's success. Pollyn emphasized that empowering women is key to building stronger communities and a more inclusive future.
The programme not only provides technical training but also empowers women with the confidence and resources needed to pursue sustainable livelihoods and entrepreneurial opportunities within the construction value chain.
Gabriel Pollyn stated that the 100 women represent the next generation of builders, entrepreneurs, and leaders who will redefine what it means to work in the construction industry.
Lafarge Africa's BuildHer initiative is a commendable step towards increasing female participation in the construction sector. The graduation of 100 women is a testament to the programme's success in empowering women with technical, entrepreneurial, and financial skills. However, more needs to be done to ensure that these women have access to sustainable livelihoods and entrepreneurial opportunities within the construction value chain. The Nigerian government should also take note of this initiative and consider implementing similar programmes to address the gender gap in the construction sector. This will not only contribute to a more inclusive future but also provide a platform for women to showcase their skills and talents.
