President Bola Ahmed Tinubu convened a high-level security meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja with the Service Chiefs, the Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu, the National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and heads of key security agencies. The meeting, which began at approximately 2:30pm on Friday, followed the Nigerian Air Force's airstrike on Jilli Market, located on the border of Borno and Yobe states. Reports indicate around 200 people were killed, many of them civilians, with several others injured and receiving medical treatment locally. The strike occurred in an area previously used by insurgents, according to Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, who stated the state government had shut down Jilli Market and Gazabure Market five years ago due to their use as logistics hubs by Boko Haram. The Nigerian Air Force confirmed conducting mop-up operations in the Jilli axis targeting terrorist locations but did not acknowledge striking a civilian site. Amnesty International has condemned the attack, accusing the military of showing disregard for civilian lives. Governor Zulum, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya, reiterated the closure of the markets and warned against supporting insurgents.
