The International Communication Association (ICA) Nigeria chapter has concluded its first national conference with a focus on strategic global communication shifts and research perspectives for Nigeria, Africa, and the global community.

The conference, held at Nile University in Abuja, brought together communication scholars, practitioners, institutional leaders, and representatives from ICA chapters in India, Indonesia, and Kenya. Government and national stakeholders in the media and communication sector also attended the event.

Conference delegates emphasized the importance of developing Nigeria's communication and media space to position the country as a leader in Africa and globally. They called on young African scholars to engage, innovate, and collaborate with established academics and infrastructure-rich countries in the West for global impact.

A presentation by Dr. Timothy Onyejelem, a Senior Lecturer at Federal University Otuoke, highlighted the growth of Nigeria's creative industry and the surge in digital entrepreneurs leveraging digital platforms for economic gain. Dr. Onyejelem noted that Nigeria's vibrant creative industry has seen a significant increase in local creators producing compelling content that resonates with both domestic and international audiences.

With over 100 million internet users, Nigeria represents one of Africa's most dynamic digital markets. Dr. Onyejelem emphasized the need for Nigerian content creators to shift from mere consumption of digital platforms to mastery of the underlying technologies driving the global creator economy.
