Dambazau heads to China; Ikpeazu, Ugwuanyi, others get postings
Nigeria’s newly appointed ambassadors and high commissioners have begun moving to their duty posts after the Federal Government announced their country assignments, with Senator Jimoh Ibrahim designated as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
The list of postings, released in Abuja by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, covers 65 envoys made up of 31 non-career ambassadors and 34 career diplomats whose nominations were earlier confirmed by the Senate in December 2025.
Among the prominent political figures assigned postings are former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode, who will represent Nigeria in Germany, and social media commentator Reno Omokri, who has been posted to Mexico. Former Interior Minister, Lt-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd), has been assigned to China, while the immediate past administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (rtd), will serve in the Philippines.
Former Abia State governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has been posted to Spain, while his counterpart from Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, is heading to Greece.
Other political appointees include Senator Grace Bent to Lome, Togo; Senator Ita Enang to South Africa; Nkechi Linda Ufochukwu to Tel-Aviv, Israel; Mahmoud Yakubu to Qatar; and Paul Oga Adikwu to the Vatican City. Engineer Abasi Braimah will serve in Budapest, Hungary; Erelu Angela Adebayo in Portugal; Barrister Olumilua Oluwayimika Ayotunwa in Tokyo, Japan; and Barrister Chioma Priscilla Ohakim in Warsaw, Poland.
Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu has been posted as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, while Ayodele Oke will head to France. Yakubu N. Gambo will represent Nigeria in Saudi Arabia, and Hon. Tasiu Musa Maigari will serve in The Gambia.
The list also includes former Lagos deputy governor Olufemi Pedro to Australia, Barrister Muhammed Ubandoma Aliyu to Argentina, and Lateef Kayode Are to the United States. Ambassador Joseph Sola Iji will represent Nigeria in Russia, while Professor Isaak Folorunso Adewole has been assigned to Ottawa, Canada.
Other postings include Fatima Florence Ajimobi to Austria, Lola Akande to Sweden, Senator Professor Nora Ladi Daduut to Seoul, South Korea, Barrister Onueze Chukwujika Joe Okocha (SAN) to Dublin, Dr. Kulu Haruna Abubakar to Tunis, Tunisia, and Rt. Hon. Jerry Samuel Manwe to Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.
The career diplomatic cadre also received assignments across Africa, Europe, Asia and the Americas. Ambassador Nwabiola Ezenwa Chukwumeka will serve in Cote d’Ivoire, while Besto Maimuna Ibrahim heads to Niamey, Niger. Monica Okwuchukwu Enebeli has been posted to Sao Tome and Principe, and Ambassador Mohammed Mahmud Lele to Algiers, Algeria.
Endoni Syndoph Paebi will represent Nigeria in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, while Ahmed Mohammed Monguno goes to Cairo, Egypt. Ambassador Jane Adams (nee Okon) Michael will serve in Kingston, Jamaica, and Ambassador Clark-Omeru Alexandra in Lusaka, Zambia. Chima Geoffrey Lioma David heads to Bamako, Mali, while Ambassador Odumah Yvonne Ehinosen has been assigned to Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.
Other career postings include Ambassador Wasa Segun Ige to Beirut, Lebanon; Ruben Abimbola Samuel to Rome, Italy; Ambassador Onaga Ogechukwu Kingsley to Maputo, Mozambique; Ambassador Magaji Umar to Kinshasa, DR Congo; and Ambassador Muhammad Saidu Dahiru to New Delhi, India.
Ambassador Abdussalam Habu Zayyad will represent Nigeria in Dakar, Senegal; Ambassador Shehu Ilu Barde in Accra, Ghana; Ambassador Aminu Nasir in Ethiopia; and Abubakar Musa Musa in N’Djamena, Chad. Ambassador Haidara Mohammed Idris has been assigned to The Hague, Netherlands, while Ambassador Bako Adamu Umar heads to Rabat, Morocco.
Further postings include Ambassador Sulu Gambari Olatunji Ahmed to Malaysia, Ambassador Romata Mohammed Omobolanle to Tanzania, Ambassador Shaga John Shamah to Botswana, Salau Hamza Mohammed to Tehran, Iran, and Ambassador Ibrahim Danlami to Kenya. Ibrahim Adeola Mopelola will serve in Cotonou, Benin, while Ambassador Ayeni Adebayo Emmanuel has been posted to Brussels, Belgium.
Ambassador Akande Wahab Adekola heads to Berne, Switzerland, while Ambassador Arewa (nee Adedokun) Esther will represent Nigeria in Windhoek, Namibia. Ambassador Gergadi Joseph John has been posted to Libreville, Gabon; Ambassador Luther Ogbomode Ayo-Kalata to Sierra Leone; Danladi Yakubu Nyaku to Khartoum, Sudan; and Bello Dogon-Daji Haliru to Bangkok, Thailand.
Onanuga disclosed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already secured agrément from the United Kingdom for Dalhatu and from France for Oke. He added that the ministry has transmitted the names of other envoys to their respective host countries for diplomatic clearance in line with international protocol.
According to him, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has also directed the ministry to immediately commence the induction programme for all ambassadors-designate and high commissioners.
