**Killing of Ex-Deputy Gov’s Father by Kidnappers Sparks Outrage in Ebonyi**
Ebonyi State is currently engulfed in tension following the brutal killing of Chief Francis Igwe, the traditional ruler of Ndufu-Alike in Ikwo Local Government Area. The monarch's lifeless body was discovered in kidnappers' den, leaving a trail of grief, outrage, and unrest in the community.
Chief Igwe, who is also the father of Kelechi Igwe, the immediate past Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State, was abducted on Sunday morning while on his way to church. The news of his abduction sent shockwaves through the community, prompting frantic efforts by security agencies to secure his release.
Unfortunately, hopes of rescuing the royal father alive were dashed when the police confirmed that he had been murdered by his captors. According to the Ebonyi State Police Command, the monarch was kidnapped on March 1, 2026, and was killed the following day.
Following a thorough investigation, the police arrested two suspects believed to be members of the kidnapping syndicate. The suspects, during interrogation, confessed to killing the monarch and volunteered to lead operatives to their hideout and assist in the recovery of the remains.
However, the operation turned violent when other members of the gang opened fire on the security agents. A gun battle ensued, resulting in the neutralization of one suspected kidnapper. Seven additional suspects were subsequently arrested, bringing the total number of suspects in custody to nine. A locally made pistol was also recovered from them.
The killing of Chief Francis Igwe has sent a wave of shock and outrage across Ebonyi State, with many calling for justice to be served. The incident serves as a reminder of the need for Nigerians to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
In the light of this recent development, the people of Ebonyi State are urging the security agencies to intensify efforts to bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to book and prevent such incidents in the future. The family of the late monarch and the people of Ndufu-Alike are still grappling with the pain and shock of losing their royal father, and the community is demanding justice and closure.
