Gunmen burnt my nephew after forcing passengers to identify themselves — Uncle
**Tragedy on the Highways: Gunmen Kill My Nephew in Kaduna**
I'm Yusuf Falke, a distraught uncle of 26-year-old Uwaisu Sunusi, who was brutally murdered on February 23, 2026, along the Bariki Ladi bypass in Kaduna State. My nephew and three others lost their lives in the senseless attack, which has left our family in shock and grief.
Uwaisu was on his way to Panshin Market in Kaduna, a common destination for our family members who sell goods like spaghetti and salt. They usually go there every Monday to make a living. On that fateful day, their driver took a detour through the Bariki Ladi bypass due to a roadblock on the main road. However, this led them to a more treacherous route where they encountered armed men.
The incident occurred near Dorowa Babuji, a district in Bariki Ladi. Uwaisu and the other passengers were forced to identify themselves to the armed men, who were demanding to know who was in each vehicle. Unfortunately, my nephew's attempt to document the situation on his phone and Facebook, where he warned other road users about the safety of the Bariki Ladi road, was met with deadly violence.
According to eyewitnesses, the armed men asked the driver, Nicholas, and the passengers to identify themselves. When they said they were Hausa, the men opened fire, killing Uwaisu and three others on the spot. The driver, Nicholas, managed to escape with his life, but the trauma of that day is still fresh in his mind.
As a family, we are still grappling with the pain of losing our loved one. We are calling on the authorities to investigate this senseless killing and bring the perpetrators to justice. We hope that this tragic incident will serve as a wake-up call to all road users in Nigeria, especially in the North, where such attacks are becoming more frequent.
We urge the government to take concrete steps to ensure the security of our roads and communities. We will not rest until justice is served and the memory of our beloved Uwaisu is honored.
