Benue thugs abduct mortuary attendant, stop mass burial
**Gunmen Prevent Mass Burial in Benue, Abduct Mortuary Attendant**
In a disturbing incident in Benue State, Nigeria, armed thugs stormed the NKST Hospital in Jato Aka, headquarters of Kwande Local Government Area, and abducted a mortuary attendant, MT Tiga. The brazen act prevented families of victims of a recent bandit attack from accessing the corpses of their loved ones, which were deposited at the mortuary.
The attack on Tyungu Jam and Mbaav communities in Kwande Local Government Area on March 5 left several people dead and many others injured. The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with Governor Hyacinth Alia describing the killings as "senseless and barbaric." Alia has called on security operatives to apprehend those responsible.
Eleven victims were scheduled for mass burial on Thursday, an event that was expected to draw people and priests from within and outside the state. However, the thugs allegedly invaded the hospital, abducted the mortuary attendant, and sealed the mortuary, denying families access to the bodies.
This reprehensible act has been condemned by the All Progressives Congress in Benue, who described it as "disgraceful" and alleged that it was sponsored. The party stated that the act was an assault on the fundamental right of a community to mourn and bury their dead with dignity.
The incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in Benue State and the need for the government to take decisive action to protect its citizens. The people of Turan have every right to determine how they lay their loved ones to rest and to draw attention to the ongoing suffering and systematic killings in their communities.
The abduction of the mortuary attendant has left families in a state of limbo, unable to access the corpses of their loved ones. This is a cruel and inhumane act that has caused unimaginable pain and suffering to those affected. It is hoped that the perpetrators will be brought to justice and that the people of Benue State will soon find peace and security.
