The Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna, has reaffirmed its support for Vice-Chancellor Professor Faruk Kuta amidst a dispute over the ownership of the institution's Bosso Campus. The Senate, in a statement issued by Registrar and Secretary to Senate Mr Danladi Mallam, rejected claims by the Niger State Government over the campus's ownership.
The Senate extensively deliberated on the dispute during its 518th meeting on Wednesday, 25 March 2026. It commended Vice-Chancellor Kuta for his maturity, leadership, and handling of the situation, while passing a vote of no confidence in Pro-Chancellor Mohammed Kudu-Santuraki for failing to adequately defend the university's interests.
The Senate also took a firm stance on the ownership of the Bosso Campus, resolving that it should neither be ceded to the Niger State Government nor co-shared with the College of Medical Sciences of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai. The move comes as tensions between the university and the Niger State Government escalate over the facility's ownership.
While the Niger State Government insists the land was leased to the university for a limited period and should revert to it, the university maintains that the Federal Government acquired the property permanently in 1983 and that it remains an integral part of its academic operations.
The Concern Nigerlites Forum has called on the Federal Government to sack Vice-Chancellor Kuta, accusing him of sabotaging the Niger State Government.
The Niger State Government's insistence on reclaiming the Bosso Campus is a worrying development that threatens the academic integrity of the Federal University of Technology, Minna. The university's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Faruk Kuta, has shown leadership and maturity in handling the dispute, but his actions are being undermined by the Pro-Chancellor, Mohammed Kudu-Santuraki. The Federal Government must intervene to resolve this dispute and ensure that the university's academic operations are not disrupted. The Concern Nigerlites Forum's call for Vice-Chancellor Kuta's sack is a misguided attempt to politicize the dispute, and it only serves to escalate tensions. The real issue at stake is the ownership of the Bosso Campus, and it is the Federal Government's responsibility to ensure that the university's interests are protected.
