The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) rewarded selected officers and marshals for exemplary conduct during a ceremony in Abuja on Tuesday. Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed presented commendation letters and cash rewards to personnel drawn from operational commands across the country, citing their sustained adherence to ethical standards and professional excellence. The awards, according to Mohammed, are part of an institutional effort to promote integrity, transparency, and accountability within the agency. He stressed that the honourees were recognised not for one-off actions but for consistently demonstrating discipline and values aligned with the Corps' mandate.
Mohammed stated that integrity is fundamental to effective law enforcement and public safety, and that the FRSC remains committed to identifying and rewarding conduct that enhances its image. He noted that thousands of personnel carry out their duties daily with honour and responsibility, and that the awards reflect this enduring culture. The initiative, he added, aims to inspire others while reinforcing management's commitment to fostering ethical conduct and operational efficiency. The FRSC reaffirmed its goal of building a safer motoring environment through a disciplined and service-oriented workforce.
Rewarding officers for ethical conduct suggests such behaviour is exceptional rather than routine in the FRSC. If thousands truly serve with integrity as Shehu Mohammed claims, then celebrating a few becomes symbolic, not transformative. This initiative may boost morale for some, but without systemic accountability, it changes little for Nigerians who still face daily harassment on the roads. Recognition is not reform.
