From Velvet to Toghu to Beads: Chioma Ikokwu Took Us Through Three Looks at “The Return of Arinzo” Premiere

Chioma Ikokwu made a bold statement at the Lagos premiere of The Return of Arinzo, transforming the red carpet into a cultural showcase through three meticulously crafted looks. The event marked her acting debut, and she embraced the film's "President and First Lady" theme with a series of outfits that blended heritage, artistry, and personal narrative. Styled by Ayams Styles, Ikokwu's first appearance featured a custom wine velvet ensemble by Sevon Dejana, complete with a structured corset, sweeping train, and intricate gold and wine crystal beadwork. The off-shoulder design extended into sculptural shoulder pieces resembling wings, while leaf and branch patterns adorned the fabric. A crystal choker and fluted sleeves added regal detail, creating a look described as both commanding and painterly.

For her second transformation, Ikokwu wore a black cape gown by Nigerian designer Amy Aghomi, a tribute to Cameroonian Toghu attire. Embroidered with bold botanical and geometric patterns in red, gold, and green, the piece incorporated cowrie shells along the edges and was finished with a black beret. Ikokwu later took to social media to engage her followers on the significance of the Toghu style, acknowledging the craftsmanship behind the garment. Her final look was a vibrant, floor-length beaded halterneck by Djec Fashion, featuring swirling patterns in gold, red, burnt orange, forest green, and silver. The fitted silhouette, deep neckline, and green beaded ties were paired with Old Hollywood waves and drop earrings, lending a celebratory energy befitting her milestone moment.
